On September 6^th, 2008, a category 4 hurricane by the name of “Ike” slammed into Grand Turk in the Turks and Caicos Islands. With winds at upwards of 140 mph, the small island didn’t stand a chance. The powerful storm destroyed homes, scattered power lines, uprooted trees, and tossed cars and small trucks around like toys. Nearly every building, including the airport control tower and pastel colored colonial buildings, sustained some damage in what was said to be one of the worst hurricanes to hit the Island in recorded history.
