Waterville, Alabama June 16th 2012
The Carbon FLOW Tour headed back to the hot, humid state of Alabama for the 2nd stop held at Waterville Water Park. Waterville has been a staple of consistency on the Carbon FLOW tour and 5 years later they are still one of the most popular events on the Tour, as they annually host over 60 competitors.
It is no surprise that competitors flock from all over the nation as Waterville is not only one of the most hospitable events, but it’s FlowRider® has a reputation of being one of the most rippable in the USA. The competitors’ felt quite at home and started ripping in all divisions from Masters to juniors……….
The Junior divisions are becoming the standouts, as these under 16 kids didn’t hold back, brought their “A” game, and showed the rest of the riders that they have what it takes to ride with the best. These kids were throwing trick after trick, fitting in at least 8 maneuvers in their 35-second runs.
These up and comers warmed the crowd up for the Pro riders who didn’t disappoint once again. After the last event, these guys knew that everyone wanted the gold medal and the slightest mistake could cost them the title. You could feel the tension going into both finals as there was a good stack of cash to take home, but in the end it was Nick Nguyen taking home the gold in the Pro Bodyboard and his fellow traveler Sean Silveira taking 1st in the Pro Flowboard. These guys did not run off with easy victories, as their fellow competitors were hot on their heels, which should keep them well focused for the next few events.
As the sun was setting and the heat was fading away, the open divisions took to the water. These guys and girls were amped after watching the pros, and it showed. The 2012 Carbon FLOW Tour made significant rule changes for the new season, awarding prize money to the Open Divisions for the first time ever. That extra incentive has seen this division really ramp up in term of competitiveness, as they now have the chance to go home with some cash in their pockets.
