(Laval, Qc. CANADA – February 7, 2011) – Maeva Surf, the first indoor surf center in Quebec opened December 4th 2010. This project represents an investment of more than 3M$ including the Wave Loch sheet wave attraction FlowRider ®. There are over 120 FlowRider attractions in the world, and Maeva Surf is the first FlowRider Double in Canada.
““We are really proud to bring the sport of Flowboarding to Québec and because it’s indoors, we’ll be able to ride all year long,” say owners and newly addicted Flowboarders Jean Francois and Patricia Dupuy. Maeva Surf created over 20 exciting new jobs and plans to receive more than 28,000 visitors in its first year; “we have already had 2000 riders since the opening” claims Jean Francois.
In addition to the surf zone, there’s a retail shop where you can find all the clothing, accessories and boards for the surfers. Maeva Surf carries Rip Curl, O’Neill, and have an exclusive agreement with Oxbow. In a rarity for Montreal, summer clothing will be in-store all year long.
The FlowRider uses high-pressure pumps to create a flow of water moving at about 25 MPH, three-inches deep, that flows up and over a soft ride surface. This form creates the shape of a perfect wave, simulating the feeling of surfing, the ride of snowboarding and the ability to perform the tricks of skateboarding.
